McGinnis Woods School Featured in Stroll Windward Magazine

July 2, 2026 //  by Mary Johnson

McGinnis Woods School was recently featured in Stroll Windward, highlighting the students, teachers, leadership, and close-knit community that make our school such a special place to learn and grow.

Stroll Windward Article about McGinnis Woods School.

We are honored to share that McGinnis Woods School was featured in the June issue of Stroll Windward. The article, titled Inside McGinnis Woods Private School: What education can look like at its best, captures many of the things our families value most about McGinnis Woods: a joyful school culture, strong academics, meaningful character education, and a true sense of community.

“It’s such a happy place. Our students are truly thriving, and I feel like we’re really making a difference in our community.”

— Mary Johnson, Principal

A Private School Where Community Comes First

One of the themes highlighted in the article is the strong community at McGinnis Woods. With small class sizes, caring teachers, and students who are known by name, McGinnis Woods offers an environment where children feel seen, supported, and encouraged.

That sense of connection is felt across our preschool, elementary, and middle school programs. Students are able to build confidence, form friendships, develop leadership skills, and participate in opportunities they may not experience in a larger school setting.

Character Education Is Part of Everyday Life

At McGinnis Woods, character education is woven into the school experience. Each month, the school focuses on a character word, giving students opportunities to think about values such as kindness, gratitude, perseverance, responsibility, and joy.

The Stroll Windward article highlights our Month of Joy and the way students are encouraged to look for joy in everyday moments. These lessons help students grow not only as learners, but also as thoughtful, compassionate members of their school and community.

Academic Excellence from Preschool Through Middle School

McGinnis Woods offers a strong academic foundation for students from preschool through middle school. Our programs are designed to challenge students while also giving them the support they need to thrive.

The article highlights several academic and enrichment opportunities available to students, including STEM, Innovation Lab, robotics, Spanish, fine arts, technology, and advanced middle school coursework. These experiences help students explore their interests, strengthen problem-solving skills, and prepare for future academic success.

Opportunities Beyond the Classroom

Learning at McGinnis Woods does not stop at the classroom door. Students have opportunities to participate in athletics, arts, leadership activities, clubs, service projects, field trips, and special school traditions throughout the year.

From robotics and volleyball to drama, music, visual art, and community service, McGinnis Woods gives students many ways to discover their strengths and develop confidence.

After School and Summer Camp Programs

The feature also mentions two programs that many local families value: our After School Program and Summer Camp. These programs give children a safe, engaging, and familiar place to continue learning, playing, and building friendships beyond the traditional school day.

Our summer camp has become a favorite tradition for many McGinnis Woods families and local families in the Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Cumming, Milton, and Windward communities.

Rooted in the Windward, Alpharetta, and Johns Creek Community

McGinnis Woods has deep roots in the local community. Many of our families live in and around Windward, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Milton, Cumming, and nearby North Fulton communities.

As the article shares, McGinnis Woods has grown through relationships: between teachers and students, families and school leadership, and the school and the broader community. That partnership is one of the reasons families often describe McGinnis Woods as feeling like home.

Thank You to Stroll Windward

We are grateful to Stroll Windward for featuring McGinnis Woods School and helping share our story with local families. Most of all, we are thankful for the students, parents, teachers, and staff who make McGinnis Woods such a joyful and meaningful place every day.
