November was a busy and inspiring month at McGinnis Woods Country Day School, filled with student creativity, athletic milestones, service projects, and meaningful celebrations. From classroom showcases to community outreach, our Wildcats continued to learn, lead, and support one another in powerful ways.
Project Showcase Week: Students Teaching Students
We kicked off the month with Project Showcase Week, where students in 1st through 4th grades proudly presented topics of their choice to classmates and peers. From historical figures to creative interests and scientific topics, students practiced research, organization, and public speaking—while learning from one another along the way. It was a wonderful example of curiosity-driven learning and student confidence.
Wildcats on the Field and in the Pool
November brought exciting athletic moments for our students:
Our 3rd and 4th grade soccer team played their first game of the season, learning valuable lessons about teamwork and perseverance as they prepared for a rematch later in the year.
We made school history with the launch of our first-ever McGinnis Woods Swim Team, competing in their inaugural meet at Georgia Tech. A huge congratulations to our swimmers and heartfelt thanks to the parents who helped make this milestone possible.
Innovation and Achievement
We celebrated our students’ creativity and problem-solving skills at the 2025 Technology Fair, recognizing winners for their innovation, perseverance, and original thinking. Many of these projects will move on to the upcoming Lanier Technology Competition in January, and we’re proud of every student who participated.
Citizenship, Kindness, and Leadership
November also gave us the opportunity to honor those who exemplify our school values:
- November Citizens of the Month were recognized alongside their families.
- Ms. Kristen was named Teacher of the Month, celebrated for filling her classroom with joy and meaningful learning.
- Our 4th graders made a tremendous impact through The Sandwich Project, preparing more than 650 sandwiches to help those experiencing food insecurity. This hands-on service project showed compassion, teamwork, and community responsibility in action.
Seasonal Learning and Celebrations
As Thanksgiving approached, learning took on festive and reflective themes:
- PreK5 students explored the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade after reading Balloons Over Broadway, designing their own parade balloons.
- Thanksgiving Feast Week brought families together for performances, shared meals, and joyful connection.
- Outdoor classroom learning continued with fall-inspired writing activities, sensory exploration, and poetry.
- Students in multiple grades participated in Fire Prevention Day, learning about fire safety, meeting first responders, and exploring a fire truck—an experience they won’t soon forget.
November was a powerful reminder of what makes McGinnis Woods special—engaged learners, supportive families, dedicated teachers, and students who care deeply about their community. We are grateful for a month filled with growth, creativity, and connection, and we look forward to carrying this momentum into the winter season.
