February was filled with memorable experiences across McGinnis Woods Country Day School. From exciting field trips and hands-on science demonstrations to family events, preschool celebrations, and thoughtful moments of appreciation, our students and school community enjoyed a month full of learning, creativity, and connection.
Third Grade Explores the Tellus Museum
Our third graders enjoyed an exciting trip to the Tellus Museum, where they learned about minerals and fossils while exploring the museum’s exhibits and kids’ area. The visit gave students the chance to see science concepts up close and experience discovery in a fun, engaging setting.
Educational outings like this help students build on what they are learning in the classroom while encouraging curiosity and exploration.
Preschool Celebrates Community Helpers
Our preschool students had a wonderful time celebrating Community Helpers. As part of the week’s activities, they dressed as their favorite helpers and even welcomed a visit from a local firefighter.
The celebration gave our youngest students a fun and meaningful way to learn about the people who serve and support our communities every day, and the Community Helper Parade made the experience even more special.
Science Comes to Life with
Science Heroes
Students were treated to an exciting presentation from Mr. Charles of Science Heroes, who brought science concepts to life in unforgettable ways. Through engaging demonstrations, students learned about air pressure, laws of motion, states of matter, forces, and chemical reactions.
It was an energetic, hands-on experience that made science both entertaining and educational, and it is easy to see why everyone is already looking forward to having him back again.
First Grade Visits the Center for Puppetry Arts
Our first graders had a wonderful outing to the Center for Puppetry Arts, where they watched a performance of Pete the Cat and took part in a behind-the-scenes workshop.
This experience gave students a chance to connect storytelling, visual arts, and performance in a creative setting that expanded learning beyond the classroom.
Cupid Shuffle Brings Families Together
One of the highlights of the month was the Cupid Shuffle, a family dance filled with fun, music, and great food. The event created a festive opportunity for families to gather, celebrate, and enjoy time together as a school community.
We are especially grateful to our parent volunteers whose time, energy, and thoughtful planning helped make the evening such a success.
Fourth Grade Visits the Mimms Museum of Technology and Art
Our fourth graders visited the Mimms Museum of Technology and Art, where they explored the largest technology museum on the East Coast and learned more about artifacts from the Digital Revolution.
Students participated in team-building activities and a scavenger hunt, using iPads to document challenges and discoveries throughout the experience. It was an interactive and engaging way to learn more about technology, innovation, and collaboration.
Parent Volunteers Treat Faculty and Staff
We also felt the love in February thanks to our amazing parent volunteers, who prepared a relaxing lunch for our teachers and staff. With grilled cheese sandwiches, delicious soup, and thoughtful details throughout the event, it was a wonderful way to show appreciation for the faculty and staff who care for our students each day.
Acts of kindness like this reflect the strong and supportive community that makes McGinnis Woods so special.
Preschool Celebrates Groundhog Day
Our preschoolers kicked off the month with a fun and creative Groundhog Day celebration. After reading Groundhog’s Dilemma, the children watched as Mr. Woods the groundhog saw his shadow and hurried back into his home.
This playful activity gave students an engaging introduction to Groundhog Day lore and added a little extra excitement to the school day.
A Wonderful Month of Learning and Community
From museum visits and live science demonstrations to preschool celebrations, family events, and moments of appreciation, February was filled with opportunities for learning and connection at McGinnis Woods Country Day School.
We are grateful for the enthusiasm of our students, the dedication of our teachers, and the support of our families. Each event helped make February a meaningful and memorable month for our school community.
