January was an exciting start to the new year at McGinnis Woods School. Across our campus, students jumped into 2025 with energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm. From classroom activities and athletic skill-building to academic competitions and science enrichment, the month was filled with meaningful opportunities to learn, grow, and celebrate together.
Second Grade Starts the Year Strong
Our second graders kicked off the new year by building new skills in more ways than one. Early in the month, students spent time in the gym learning to dribble and play basketball with Coach Ricky. It was a fun and active way to begin the semester while working on coordination, teamwork, and confidence.
They also took part in a creative and practical lesson about money and making change through their very own Hot Cocoa Cafe. This hands-on activity gave students a fun way to practice real-world math skills while enjoying the experience of ordering, serving, and counting money in the classroom.
Celebrating 100 Days Smarter
Our 100th Day of School celebrations brought lots of smiles and creativity to campus. Students marked the occasion with counting activities, writing projects, and imaginative fun, including dressing up as what they might look like at 100 years old.
It was a joyful way to celebrate all that our students have learned so far this school year and to reflect on how much they continue to grow each day.
McGinnis Woods Shines at the Lanier Regional Technology Fair
We were proud to celebrate the students who represented McGinnis Woods at the Lanier Regional Technology Fair. Their projects and presentations reflected impressive creativity, preparation, and academic effort.
Our Wildcats earned an outstanding set of results, including 2 first place ribbons, 5 second place ribbons, and 2 third place ribbons. We are especially excited for our first-place recipients, who will advance to the Georgia State Technology Fair later this winter. Congratulations to all of the students who participated and represented the school so well.
High Touch HighTech Brings Science to Life
Students also enjoyed in-house science experiences led by the scientists from High Touch HighTech. These engaging sessions helped different classes explore concepts related to magnets and light through interactive, hands-on activities.
Programs like these make science memorable by giving students the chance to experiment, observe, and discover in an exciting classroom setting.
Recognizing Our January Citizens and Teacher of the Month
At the end of the month, we were proud to recognize our January Citizens and Teacher of the Month. Celebrating these students and faculty members is always a meaningful moment for our school community, and we love taking time to honor those who demonstrate strong character, leadership, and care for others.
These recognitions reflect the values we work to nurture every day at McGinnis Woods.
A Wonderful Start to the Year
From academic achievements and science enrichment to milestone celebrations and active classroom learning, January was a wonderful beginning to the year at McGinnis Woods Country Day School. Our students started the semester with curiosity, determination, and joy, and we look forward to all the learning and growth still to come.
We are grateful for our dedicated teachers, supportive families, and amazing students who make our school community so special.
