April was a vibrant and enriching month at McGinnis Woods School, filled with hands-on learning, creative expression, and special experiences for students of all ages. From preschoolers celebrating the Week of the Young Child to older students exploring life cycles and showcasing their artistic talents, our classrooms were full of curiosity, joy, and discovery.
Preschool Celebrates NAEYC’s Week of the Young Child
Our McGinnis Woods Preschool students had a wonderful time participating in NAEYC’s Week of the Young Child, a national celebration of early learning and the teachers and families who support young learners.
-

On Music Monday, our preschoolers danced with sunflower props to hip hop music, spreading joy and rhythm throughout the school.
-
For Artsy Thursday, classrooms were bursting with creativity as students explored color, texture, and artistic expression. Their excitement and imagination made it a day to remember!
PreK Visits the Atlanta Gladiators and the Dahlonega Butterfly Farm
Our PreK students also enjoyed two exciting off-campus and in-school experiences:
-
A behind-the-scenes visit with the Atlanta Gladiators gave students a fun glimpse into the world of professional hockey, complete with opportunities to learn, laugh, and cheer.
-

The Dahlonega Butterfly Farm visited McGinnis Woods and brought the magic of nature into the classroom. Students learned about the butterfly and moth lifecycle, held cocoons, observed caterpillars and chrysalises, and even stepped into a net enclosure to interact with live butterflies. The hands-on science experience was a favorite!
3rd Grade Welcomes Baby Chicks
In the third-grade classrooms, students were thrilled to welcome newly hatched chicks as part of their life cycle studies. The project brought science to life, giving students a firsthand look at development, hatching, and early care. The excitement in the classrooms was contagious as students observed the chicks’ arrival and progress.
A Dazzling Art Show Inspired by Mosaic and Stained Glass
April also brought one of our most anticipated events of the year—the McGinnis Woods Art Show. This year’s theme, led by Ms. Tanya, celebrated mosaic and stained glass styles, and students from every grade level contributed pieces inspired by these techniques. The result was a colorful, gallery-style display of student creativity that wowed families, staff, and visitors alike. The talent and imagination of our Wildcats were on full display!
At McGinnis Woods School, every month is full of wonder and hands-on discovery—and April was no exception. Whether hatching chicks, creating art, or learning through movement and music, our students continue to grow in knowledge, confidence, and joy.
