December was a joyful and action-packed month at McGinnis Woods Country Day School, filled with academic achievement, meaningful service, creative exploration, and festive celebrations as our community wrapped up the year together.
Robotics Success and STEM Learning
We kicked off the month by celebrating STEM and our robotics teams and Ms. Wendy for a fantastic season. Students made a strong showing at their robotics competition, placing well in the robotic run portion of the events. Their teamwork, problem-solving, and perseverance were on full display—well done, Wildcats!
Fourth graders also capped off their weather unit with a field trip to the Gwinnett Environmental Center, where hands-on activities focused on Extreme Weather. It was the perfect way to bring science learning to life through real-world exploration.
Learning with Heart and Purpose
December highlighted the compassion and generosity of our students:
- 1st graders visited Build-A-Bear Workshop, creating special bears to donate to Make-A-Wish children, complete with kind notes. Their empathy and giving spirit truly shined.
- Our Annual Holiday Shoppe brought excitement as students selected thoughtful gifts for family and friends. A heartfelt thank you goes to the parent volunteers and Holiday Shoppe Committee who created such a magical experience.
Recognizing Excellence
We proudly celebrated our December Citizens of the Month and Teacher of the Month, honoring students and Ms. Wendy for their positive impact and commitment to making McGinnis Woods a better place each day.
Holiday Traditions and Seasonal Learning
Festive learning filled classrooms throughout the month:
- PreK5 students explored the tradition of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade after reading Balloons Over Broadway, designing their own parade balloons.
- Outdoor classroom activities continued with fall-themed writing, sensory exploration, and poetry.
- Fire Prevention Day gave students the chance to learn about fire safety, meet first responders, and explore a fire truck—an unforgettable experience for many.
Music, Performances, and Winter Fun
As winter break approached, campus buzzed with excitement:
- Students and families enjoyed the band and chorus concert, Sing-A-Long, and holiday parties.
- Our Holiday Sing-A-Long filled the gym with smiling faces, happy voices, and jingling bells.
- Special visits from holiday characters, snowball fights, field trips, and classroom celebrations made the final weeks of school truly memorable.
December was a wonderful reminder of the joy, creativity, and kindness that define our McGinnis Woods community. As we headed into winter break, we did so grateful for a season filled with learning, laughter, and togetherness.
